More than a Library

From 2023 to 2025, The Psychedelic Assembly operated the Athenaeum, the world’s first public psychedelic library and community center. It was tucked inconspicuously between Grand Central Station and the United Nations in Midtown Manhattan.

While it was home to thousands of books on psychedelics, consciousness and altered states, the Athenaeum was much more than a library. Between its overflowing bookshelves, visionary art, warm lighting and mismatched furniture, a remarkable little community took root.

For two and a half years, the Athenaeum became a second home for psychonauts. It was a magnet for coincidence, synchronicity, strange encounters and unlikely friendships.

A quiet kind of magic.

While the Athenaeum closed its doors in 2025, the community that was born within its walls is still growing strong.

A Home

Beyond anything, the Athenaeum was a home. A safe, comfortable third-space for the psychedelic community to find a sense of belonging.
